1. What must a VAR understand about today's email security threats and solutions in order to sell a viable solution?

A. Both the threats and the solutions to protect against email threats have changed significantly. Only a few years ago, attachments were the primary means of spreading malware through email. Today, emails with embedded URL links to malicious websites are a much greater concern. According to Websense Research Labs, approximately 85% of spam contains an embedded URL. Because of that, VARs must also embrace new delivery methods for email security.

A notable trend: Software as a Service (SaaS) email security solutions are seeing tremendous market growth as businesses look to reduce the cost and complexity of installing and maintaining software and appliances.
